Compact cars appeal to two different age groups

Toronto, Ontario – A new report by J.D. Power and Associates shows that the distribution of customer ages for the compact basic and compact conventional car segments in Canada are both bi-modal, in that they have two modes or peaks, both of which are outside the segment average.

The mode for both the midsize conventional segment and the entire industry is in the range of 45 to 49 years of age. Both the compact basic and compact conventional car segments share a peak of 25 to 29 years of age; the second peak is ages 40 to 44 for the compact basic segment, and 45 to 49 for the compact conventional segment.

The midsize conventional segment has a higher percentage than the industry average of buyers 50 and older, while the compact crossover segment does well in all four age categories, which cover ages 35 to 54.
