Canton, Mississippi – Nissan North America’s vehicle manufacturing plant in Canton, Mississippi has celebrated its fifth year of production. Since its opening on May 27, 2003, more than 1.3 million vehicles have rolled off the assembly line.

The plant, which employs approximately 3,700 workers, currently builds the Nissan Quest, Titan, Armada and Altima, and the Infiniti QX56. As part of Nissan’s five-year Nissan GT 2012 business plan, it will become the manufacturing centre for a range of new Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) aimed at the North American market, with the first of three products to be launched in 2010.

“LCVs will become a major contributor to the future success of Nissan in North America,” said Bill Krueger, senior vice president, Manufacturing, Purchasing & Supply Chain Management. “It is a tribute to our employees in Canton that it will be the manufacturing hub for these important new products, key to our sustainable growth in the U.S.”

Nissan was the first automaker to open a vehicle assembly plant in Mississippi. Within its first year of operation, the plant launched five vehicle models; it produces approximately 1,000 vehicles per day.
