Transport Canada issues latest recalls

Ottawa, Ontario – Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some General Motors, Volkswagen, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, and Land Rover vehicles.

2000-2001 Chevrolet Trailblazer
2000-2002 GMC Envoy
2000-2002 GMC Jimmy
2000-2001 Oldsmobile Bravada
Vehicles affected: 1,916

On certain vehicles, the multifunction switch may develop an open circuit with the bottom contact of the hazard switch, causing the stop lamps and hazard lamps to become inoperable. The centre high-mounted stop lamp and turn signal functions are not affected. Dealers will inspect and replace either the hazard warning switch or the malfunction switch assembly. This campaign expands the population of recall 2001285.

2008 Volkswagen Passat
2008 Volkswagen Passat Wagon
Vehicles affected: 120

On certain vehicles, the engine control module (ECM) contains software that may not properly control the engine speed while the air conditioning is turned on. The ECM may briefly increase engine rpm and vehicle speed. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, update the ECM software.

2008 Dodge Viper
Vehicles affected: 30

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 114-Locking and Immobilization Systems. The electronic vehicle immobilizer does not passively set as is required by the standard. Dealers will replace the body control module.

2006 Jeep Commander
Vehicles affected: 2,000

On certain vehicles equipped with a 4.7-litre engine, the powertrain control module (PCM) contains software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. Dealers will reprogram the PCM.

2006-2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class
2006-2008 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class
Vehicles affected: 3,724

On certain vehicles, trailer hitches may contain inadequate welds and could eventually fail. These hitches may have been installed during vehicle assembly, or sold as an over-the-counter accessory and installed by the vehicle. Dealers will repair the hitch assembly.

2005-2006 Land Rover LR3
2005-2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Vehicles affected: 1,716

On certain vehicles, the wiring that connects the steering column rotary coupler (clockspring) to the driver’s airbag module may fracture as a result of relative motion between the clockspring and the steering wheel hub. This may result in the deployment of only one stage of the dual-stage airbag during a crash, or cause the airbag not to deploy at all. Dealers will insert alignment spacers into specific areas of the steering column.
