Stuttgart, Germany – Following strong sales of the redesigned Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Daimler AG will invest a total of €177 million to expand production at its facilities in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde where the vans are made. The Sprinter vans are sold under the Mercedes-Benz, Dodge and Freightliner nameplates.

“We very consciously decided in favour of additional capacities in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG. “The infrastructure as well as the qualifications, flexibility and dedication of the staff guarantee the high-quality level of our products.”

The Ludwigsfelde facility will receive an enlarged assembly area, a new bodyshop and a new painting plant. The alterations will be completed by mid-2011 and will increase production by about 50 per cent.

The Düsseldorf factory will receive additions to its plant and equipment, which will increase capacity by about 12 per cent at the end of 2009. The investments at the two plants are expected to add as many as 500 new jobs.
