Electric Subaru STELLA concept shown

Tokyo, Japan – Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, has announced the successful development of its Subaru Plug-In STELLA prototype electric vehicle. FHI will provide five STELLA models for use at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, to be held July 7.

Four of the five cars will be used to transport government officials and other summit participants, while one will be displayed at the Environmental Showcase exhibition and be available for test-drives. In addition, FHI will provide one STELLA to the Japan Post group for use in mail collection and delivery in the vicinity of Toyako during the summit.

The STELLA combines the electric system used in the R1e, debuted at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year, with the Subaru STELLA minicar. FHI plans to use the prototype in the development and test-marketing of the next-generation of electric vehicles in Japan in the near future.
