Small vehicles lead June auto sales

Richmond Hill, Ontario - The Honda Civic and Ford F-Series topped Canadian passenger car and light truck sales respectively again in June, according to a report by industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. Small entry-level vehicle sales are up 1.9 per cent for the month and up 12.1 per cent year-to-date, while every other category is down, led by commercial vehicles down 29.6 per cent in June and 13.4 per cent year-to-date.

“You can’t give away a large sport utility,” DesRosiers said. “Sales were only 751 units last month, or less than half of one per cent of the market. Every single one of the top ten passenger cars in June is either a B or C-sized vehicle, and only Camry is in the top ten year-to-date”…”Even with light trucks we are seeing the smaller trucks rise to the top of our top ten list, with the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Dodge Journey, Honda CR-V and Ford Ranger all top sellers.”

The top ten best-selling passenger cars in Canada in June were, in order, the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Matrix, Dodge Caliber and Pontiac G5.

Year-to-date, the top ten best-selling passenger cars in order were the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Cobalt, Hyundai Accent, Pontiac G5, Toyota Camry, Nissan Versa and Ford Focus.

The top ten best-selling light trucks in June, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Ford Escape, Dodge Ram, Dodge Caravan, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Ranger, Dodge Journey, Toyota RAV4 and Jeep Patriot.

The top ten best-selling light trucks, year-to-date, were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram, Ford Escape, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Chevrolet Uplander.
