Toronto, Ontario – Lexus has announced the addition of all-wheel drive (AWD) versions of its luxury flagship sedan, the LS 460 and long-wheelbase LS 460L. The 2009 model year expands Lexus’ AWD line-up, adding the LS to the IS 250, GS 350 and LS 600h L models.

The AWD LS 460 and LS 460 L models will use a drivetrain almost identical to that of the hybrid LS 600h L, featuring a compact centre Torsen limited-slip differential that distributes drive torque between the front and rear wheels. In normal driving conditions, torque distribution is set at 40/60 rear bias, but the system can instantly vary between 30/70 and 50/50, depending on driving conditions.

As with the rear-wheel drive LS models, the AWD LS 460 and LS 460 L use a 4.6-litre V8, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The AWD versions will produce 357 horsepower and 344 lb-ft of torque, and will come standard with air suspension, variable gear ratio steering and adaptive variable suspension. The 2009 AWD models will be available in Canadian dealerships in September, 2008.
