Saskatchewan students finalists in Daimler contest

Paris, France – Finalists for the international Mondialogo School Contest, initiated by Daimler and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have been named, with students from Hafford Central School in Hafford, Saskatchewan among the final fifty. The finalists were chosen from 36,000 students from 144 nations for the 2007/2008 contest.

The finalists, representing a total of 36 countries, will be represented at the finals this year in Beijing, China. Each team is comprised of two schools that must be from different countries, and the Saskatchewan students are teamed with partners from Oroslavje, Croatia. The two teams have been working on a project dealing with cultural diversity.

The global contest encourages dialogue between school students from different cultural origins to work together across continents on a joint project. Examples include musical works, plays, collages, photographic documentation, sculptures or Internet pages. Key criteria for the nomination is the intensity of intercultural dialogue between the partner teams and the creative implementation of the project.

All 50 nominated teams have been invited to Beijing from September 25 to 28, where the partner teams will meet in person for the first time and present their projects to an international jury. The jury will select the three best projects and announce the winners at an awards ceremony.
