Nissan introduces new paint technology

Tokyo, Japan – Nissan Motor Company has announced it will apply a series of new technologies in its manufacturing paint shops worldwide, with reduced energy consumption, CO2 emissions and waste solvents when compared to existing methods.

The new methodology uses a more efficient spray gun painting process that reduces the number of painting lines, making it more space-efficient and twice as fast in the total process. Nissan said the technology means it has achieved the world’s most compact body-panel paint shop operations.

Downsizing the physical size of the paint shop reduces energy consumption and resulting CO2 emissions, as paint shops currently use approximately one-quarter of the plant’s energy consumption in the heating, cooling and humidifying processes. The more efficient painting methodology also achieves up to a 50 per cent reduction of waste solvents.
