Corolla, F-Series top September sales

Richmond Hill, Ontario – The Toyota Corolla topped Canadian sales in September 2008, while the Ford F-Series held its top spot among light truck sales, according to industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. Overall, vehicle sales were up 1.7 per cent in September 2008 when compared with September 2007.

“Corolla for the second month outsold the Civic,” DesRosiers said. “Not enough to change year-to-date tracking, but the new Corolla is proving to be a huge hit. And Yaris, number four behind Corolla, Civic and Mazda3, almost doubled sales. And the Yaris is a very small vehicle. This shows you where the heads of Canadians are with their vehicle purchase.

“F-Series is holding its own in the light truck market and the Ram pickup is having a huge year, up on the year, so it appears the strength of our resource sector is helping hold the pickup truck market. Large pickups were actually up 1.3 per cent for the month, although down on the year.”

The top ten best-selling passenger cars in Canada in September were, in order, the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac Vibe, Hyundai Accent, Pontiac G5, Honda Accord and Toyota Matrix.

Year-to-date to the end of September, the top ten were the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Cobalt, Hyundai Accent, Pontiac G5, Toyota Camry, Toyota Matrix and Honda Accord.

The top ten best-selling light trucks in September were, in order, the Ford F-Series, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Ranger and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Year-to-date to the end of September, the top ten trucks, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Ram, Dodge Caravan, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford Escape, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Chevrolet Uplander.
