Los Angeles, California – Nissan has unveiled the Cube at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with the announcement that the model, on sale in Japan for more than ten years, will be sold in the U.S. in the spring of 2009. The new model will be the third generation of the Cube.

“With its unique blend of fashion and function, Cube imagines a life less ordinary,” said Al Castignetti, vice-president, Sales, Nissan Division. “Cube is as much of a Mobile Device as it is an automobile, something that enhances life like people’s digital devices do. Cube is a vehicle that people of all ages can fall in love with, even when they don’t love cars. The new Nissan Cube is not, by any measure, a pure ‘youth car’, though it especially meets the needs of young adults’ lives in the sense that it is social, expressive and practical. And like many entry-level vehicles, Cube will be purchased by young consumers with the help or influence of their parents. We believe the combination of value, fuel economy and safety will be especially reassuring to parents involved in such decisions.”

Cube will include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, six airbags, and active front seat head restraints. It uses a 122-horsepower 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine also used in the Nissan Versa, with new-generation Nissan Xtronic continuously variable transmission or six-speed manual transmission.

The Cube includes a six-way manual driver’s seat and four-way manual front passenger’s seat, along with a “lounge sofa”-style sliding rear bench seat that can be adjusted to three positions. Standard equipment will include power windows, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and variable intermittent wipers; available features will include a pushbutton ignition, Bluetooth, Rockford Fosgate stereo system, XM satellite radio, iPod interface and rear sonar system.
