Los Angeles, California – Porsche has presented the next generation of its mid-engined Boxster and Cayman sports cars at the Los Angeles Auto Show, featuring more power and also significantly greater fuel economy than their predecessors. Further improving fuel economy and performance is the seven-speed Porsche PDK double-clutch gearbox.

A newly-enlarged, 2.9-litre flat-six engine develops 255 horsepower in the Boxster and 265 horsepower in the Cayman, a respective increase of 10 and 20 horsepower over the previous models. The 3.4-litre unit in the S versions, with Direct Fuel Injection, now delivers 310 horsepower in the Boxster S, and 320 horsepower in the Cayman S, up by 15 and 25 horsepower respectively.

Fuel efficiency improves to 8.9 L/100 km in combined driving with the new 2.9-litre Boxer engine, which is 11 per cent less than former models with Tiptronic S; the 3.4-litre versions with PDK average 9.2 L/100 km, a reduction of 16 per cent.

Other changes include new front and rear ends, halogen headlights with integrated turn signals reminiscent of the Carrera GT, tapering LED taillights, and an available Lights Package on both models featuring bi-xenon headlamps, dynamic curve lights, and LED daytime driving lights. The roadster and coupe models differ through the distinctive design of their air intakes and, from the rear, through the new rear panels with diffuser inserts on the Boxster, and a wind deflector plate on the Cayman. A new suspension set-up, new wheel designs, and the latest generation of Porsche Stability Management with brake pre-loading and brake assist are also featured on the new models.
