Los Angeles, California - Ford has debuted the 2010 Ford Mustang, which hits the streets with a new exterior design, revised interior, improved handling, and a V8 with more horsepower and a throatier signature exhaust sound.

At launch, customers will be able to choose from a V6 or V8, in their choice of coupe, convertible or glass roof, plus several new options and features.

“The best Mustangs have always been the ones that connect young America with the spirit of the times, and the 2010 does exactly that,” said J Mays, Ford’s group vice-president of Design. “The new Mustang is close to the magnetic centre of the original, fully loaded with the swagger you’d expect, but with modern refinement and attention to detail like you’ve never seen in a muscle car.”

The 2010 Mustang sports the first new grille emblem since the car’s introduction in 1964, along with new sculpted front-end designs unique to the V6 or GT model, and single headlamp and turn indicator units. The fog lamps are located on the lower fascia on the V6, while the GT features fog lamps smaller than the outgoing model, located in the upper grille. All exterior sheet metal except for the fastback roofline is all-new for 2010, including a powerdome hood, sculpted wheel flares, angled rear corners and new deck lid. The taillight design features three LED bulbs firing sequentially for turn indication, a Mustang feature in the 1960s.

The 4.6-litre V8 has a horsepower increase to 315 horsepower, and has adjusted springs, stabilizer bars and shock absorbers for better steering control and handling. Electronic stability control is now standard.
