2009 Saab 9-3 earns “Top Safety Pick” award

Detroit, Michigan – The 2009 Saab 9-3, including the Sport Sedan, SportCombi wagon and Convertible, have earned the Top Safety Pick Award in the midsize category from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is the fifth consecutive year the 9-3 Sport Sedan has been so named.

The 9-3 Convertible has been named for the third year, as the IIHS only began testing convertibles in 2007. The award is in recognition of achieving the Instutite’s top rating of “Good” in front- and side-impact crash tests, plus evaluations of seat and head restraints. The vehicle must also offer electronic stability control.

“We are delighted that the IIHS findings confirm our own crash test results,” said Per Lenhooff, head of Safety at Saab Automobile AB in Sweden. “This reassures customers that the 9-3 is among the very best in its class for crash safety.”
