Toyota Corolla top selling car in October

Richmond Hill, Ontario – The Toyota Corolla has taken the top Canadian sales spot for passenger cars for the third consecutive month, while the Ford F-Series held its first place ranking among light trucks, according to industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers.

“Even with gas prices coming down to earth, small entry-level vehicles continue to sell well, with sales up 6.4 per cent in October and up 9.6 per cent year-to-date,” DesRosiers said. “Subcompact and compact cars and compact SUVs are all up solidly this past month, as consumers appear unwilling to move to less fuel-efficient products, even with lower gas prices.”

In order, the top ten best-selling passenger cars in October were the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Matrix, Hyundai Accent, Pontiac G5, Volkswagen Jetta, and Ford Focus.

Year-to-date to the end of October, the top ten cars were, in order, the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Cobalt, Hyundai Accent, Pontiac G5, Toyota Camry, Toyota Matrix and Honda Accord.

In order, the top ten best-selling light trucks in October were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Ram, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Dodge Caravan, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Year-to-date to the end of October, the top ten light trucks were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Ram, Dodge Caravan, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford Escape, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Chevrolet Uplander.

Overall, 63,507 passenger cars and 59,204 light trucks were sold in Canada in October 2008, an increase of 2.4 per cent for cars versus October 2007, and an increase of 0.5 per cent for light trucks.
