Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) has announced that it is closing some plants and cutting its salaried work force, including the closure of its glass fabrication facility in Oshawa, Ontario in the first quarter of 2009, and a satellite assembly plant in Cambridge, Ontario later in 2009. The company will also close a satellite plant in Newark, Delaware and reduce its salaried workforce by over 150 people.

“This realignment will enable us to adapt to the changing demands of the industry,” said president and CEO Jim Wiggins. “The changes are part of PGW’s transformation of its manufacturing footprint and will help to improve our focus on our remaining facilities.”

PGW supplies windshields, windows, sunroofs and assemblies for auto and truck manufacturers, as well as replacement automotive glass products for use in the aftermarket. Automotive glass products are produced at nine North American plants, including Hawkesbury, Ontario, and a joint venture facility in Tepeji del Rio, Mexico.
