Vancouver, British Columbia – British Columbia has reached a milestone by selling 150,000 special edition license plates to support the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Lyle Short of Maple Ridge became the 150,000th Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) customer to show his support. His plate came with a special reward of a part of 2010 Winter Games event tickets.

“These phenomenal sales really demonstrate the passion and enthusiasm British Columbians have towards the Games,” said Jeff Schulz, vice-president of strategic marketing for ICBC. “The 2010 Winter Games are going to be one of the most significant events to take place in B.C.’s recent history and this plate program has provided a way for British Columbians to show their Olympic Spirit. We want to thank our proud supporters and provide them a chance to experience the Games.”

Any customer who has already purchased a plate will be automatically entered to win one of 150 pairs of 2010 Winter Games event tickets, while those who purchase a plate between June 15 and December 6, 2009 will be entered into a weekly draw to win one of two pairs of event tickets.

The plates can be purchased from Autoplan brokers for an initial fee of $35 (annual renewal fee of $25 until 2012). The plates are official license plates and will continue to be valid beyond the Games. Customers are encouraged to retain the plates, but if they chose to cancel them after December 31, 2010, they will get to keep the front plate as a souvenir. For more information, visit ICBC.
