Japan’s postal service to use electric vehicles

Tokyo, Japan – Japan’s postal service will deploy 40 electric vehicles this fiscal year, with the first units launching later this month, according to the Green Car Congress.

Japan Post Service has signed five-year leases for 20 units each of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and the Subaru Plug-In Stella. The cars will be used mainly in the company’s branches in Kanagawa Prefecture, which has a charging infrastructure.

The postal service is also testing custom-built electric vehicles for mail pickup, and at the end of the year will test a plug-in Toyota Prius.
