Toronto approves car-sharing parking spots

Toronto, Ontario – Toronto has approved 20 new parking spaces dedicated to car-sharing vehicles. Zipcar and AutoShare will participate in the pilot program, which will offer access to car-share vehicles at locations in the city core, including Ed Mirvish Way, and Emily, Jordan, Gould and Mutual Streets.

“We’re thrilled with the leadership the City of Toronto is demonstrating by recognizing the importance of car sharing,” said Michael Lende, general manager of Zipcar Toronto. “With hundreds of new members joining each month, and each Zipcar replacing 15 to 20 personally-owned vehicles, car sharing will continue to positively impact the future of Toronto’s transportation mix with recognizable environmental and economic rewards.”

Zipcar said that its Toronto membership is up nearly 40 per cent since last year.
