Highway 69 construction starts in Sudbury, Ontario

Sudbury, Ontario – The federal and provincial government have announced the start of construction on the next project to widen and improve Highway 69 in Sudbury, Ontario.

The highway will be widened and newly aligned from Estaire, Ontario, south to Highway 637. The highway is an important trade link in Northern Ontario.

The federal government is providing up to $35.8 million toward the $76.9 million project through the Building Canada Fund. The province of Ontario will provide the remainder through the Northern Highways Program.

“We are pleased by the federal government’s participation in this project on this stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway,” said Michael Gravelle, Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry. “We are looking forward to continuing a partnership that is promoting job creation and economic development, as well as creating new, modern infrastructure for Canada’s national highway system through Ontario.”
