Dearborn, Michigan – The 2011 Ford Mustang will feature a new, all-aluminum V6 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, for improved fuel consumption and driving fun.

The new 3.7-litre Duratec 24-valve DOHC V6 uses twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) that adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds. The lightweight engine is designed to produce low-end torque, and rev to 7,000 rpm.

“Mustang is completely transformed with this engine,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of global product development. “Everything people love about the car is still there, and now under the hood is a V6 engine that uses premium technology to deliver the power, the feel, the fuel efficiency, even the sound of the best sports coupe in the world.”

The new engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, significantly more than its predecessor despite its smaller displacement.
