Richmond Hill, Ontario – The Honda Civic and the Ford F-Series were the top-selling passenger vehicle and light truck in Canada in 2009, both in December and for the year overall, according to industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers.

With 81,396 units sold in 2009, the Ford F-Series was also the best-selling vehicle overall; Honda Civic sales were 62,654 vehicles.

Overall, 50,942 passenger cars were sold in December 2009, up 13.9 per cent from 2008; there were 60,244 light trucks sold, up 21.3 per cent. For all of 2009, passenger car sales were 747,496, down 16.4 per cent from 2008 overall, while light trucks sold 713,085 units, down 3.8 per cent.

In order, the top ten best-selling passenger cars in December were the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Fit, Chevrolet Impala, Volkswagen Golf, and Honda Accord.

For 2009, the top ten passenger cars were the Honda Civic (62,654 sold), Toyota Corolla (53,933), Mazda3 (46,943), Hyundai Elantra (30,675), Hyundai Accent (25,220), Toyota Yaris (23,773), Toyota Matrix (22,526), Ford Focus (21,831), Nissan Versa (20,097), and Ford Fusion (16,526).

In order, the top ten best-selling light trucks in December were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Caravan, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Dodge Journey, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Honda CR-V.

For 2009, the top ten light trucks were the Ford F-Series (81,396 sold), Dodge Caravan (40,283), GMC Sierra (37,316), Ford Escape (36,980), Chevrolet Silverado (36,428), Dodge Ram (30,621), Toyota RAV4 (25,784), Hyundai Santa Fe (24,676), Ford Ranger (20,715), and Honda CR-V (18,554).
