All-new model

For 2009, the Acura TSX has been redesigned into its second generation. Based on the European/Japanese Honda Accord, the new TSX is larger and more performance-oriented than the previous model and is aimed at entry-premium buyers.

The TSX uses an all-aluminum 2.4-litre inline four-cylinder engine that, for the first time in a TSX model, includes dual balance shafts and a direct ignition system. Horsepower drops slightly over the previous TSX, from 205 to 201 hp, but torque increases from 164 to 172 lb-ft, and with a wider powerband for improved midrange performance. The engine is also cleaner than before, meeting Tier 2 Bin 5 emission standards. As with the previous model, transmission choices are a close-ratio six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and F1-style paddle shifters.

The new TSX also has a closed-channel cross-braced roof structure and inside frame rails, a first for the Acura division, for a more rigid structure and reduced road noise.

Features on the base TSX include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated cloth seats with eight-way driver and four-way passenger power adjustment, Bluetooth hands-free communication, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary jack, compass, tire pressure monitoring system, power sunroof, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, auto-dimming rearview mirror, twin illuminated vanity mirrors, garage door opener, power windows, power locks with keyless entry, speed-sensing variable intermittent wipers, tilt and telescopic column, and 60/40 split-folding rear seat.

The Premium adds automatic Xenon headlamps, fog lights, two-position driver memory, perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, and premium sound system with XM Satellite Radio and USB connector.

The Technology package adds a six-CD stereo, reverse camera, and navigation system with bilingual voice recognition.

Already one of the better-handling front-wheel drive sedans available, the redesigned TSX adds better performance, wider track for improved handling, numerous improvements such as active head restraints and interior features, and a more rigid body structure at a price that starts below the MSRP for the 2008 models.
