The first model year for the Honda Element was 2003 — I remember this vividly for some reason. I remember how Honda claimed having no carpets made it easier to hose out mud and grime from camping trips, and how you could sleep in it, because the seats could be stored away against the sides. I also remember my father commenting that it looked like a bread truck from the 1940s / 50s. More…

Another crossover to review this week; this is a much smaller one than last week’s and from a Japanese manufacturer. It’s the new-for-2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, ready to compete against its Japanese rivals the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-Trail. Some other competitors for the Outlander include Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass / Patriot and, perhaps, the Pontiac Torrent and its derivatives. This market is huge in North America at the moment with some good competition. More…

More and more manufacturers are hitting the market with crossover SUVs these days. The minivan seems to be going the way of the dodo bird, while the crossover attempts to pick up the slack in the seven-to-eight passenger segment. Until recently, SUVs haven’t performed the task very well, with difficult rear access and horrible leg and head room, but GMC is attempting to change this with their latest vehicle. More…

From a sports car to a family hauler for me; at first a little hard to swallow but when people ask me how that feels, I can honestly reply, “It’s no big deal.” You get used to it. This week I’m driving a Chrysler Pacifica Limited AWD: tweaked here and there for 2007 and upgraded to a 4.0L engine and six speed automatic transmission. More…

Day-by-Day Review: 2007 Dodge Nitro

This week, I’m driving the 2007 Dodge Nitro, or, what I like to call the modern macho machine. I do not think any vehicle on the road today exudes more macho-ism than the Dodge Nitro — except maybe the Hummer. Oddly enough, for the first time, I saw a woman driving a Nitro the other day. I didn’t think I would ever witness that, as I see the Nitro targeted aggressively towards men. More…

Day-by-Day Review: 2007 Ford Edge

Back to reality and into the Ford Edge this week, Ford’s new entry into the crossover segment. Sales of the Ford Edge have been strong since released just a few months ago and with striking good looks and a well laid out interior I can certainly understand why this vehicle is taking off. More…

Though this is the first minivan I have had the chance to review, my parents own minivans and I have been inside minivans for various events, so I do have some context. The all-wheel drive, Limited Edition Toyota Sienna that I have this week is pretty much fully loaded . More…

As some of you may know, I participate in some “driver’s skills competitions” some weekends. This weekend I headed out to the Motorsports Club of Ottawa’s slush ‘n slide event, which is held at the Ottodrome just outside Stittsville. And as luck would have it, I drove a Suzuki, although not an XL7, but a Swift from 1998. More…

This week I finally get behind the wheel of CanadianDriver’s long-term Hyundai Santa Fe. This is Hyundai’s second generation Santa Fe, with the first having been introduced in 2000. The 2007 Santa Fe is yet again a vast improvement for Hyundai over the previous model and I have been looking forward to testing it. More…

Day-by-Day Review: 2007 Jeep Compass

Built off of the Dodge Caliber’s platform and as the first Jeep to be built using a car-based architecture, the 2007 Jeep Compass is Jeep’s first official entry into the crossover market. It’s also the only Jeep in the lineup to not get the Trail Rated designation, the new 2007 Jeep Compass is certainly more car than Jeep. More…
