In that case, I suggest NOT cheaping out. In fact, dualee would be recommended for that kind of high stress action

Which Geolandar H/T-S?

The G051 is probably decent, tied for 8th in rank based on the tirerack customer survey (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=HAS).  Good solid scores in all performance categories.
 
The G053 I would pass on, as there are many other better choices for the money (or less).  Scored 19th in rank, not so good in any of the winter performance categories.

For?  They were the OE tire on my Subaru, and I didn't like them very much.  My much more street performance oriented Falkens are so much better on pavement, and are probably 95% as good on gravel, etc that they've been a big improvement for me.  I found the Geolanders poor on paved roads and didn't make up for it all off pavement.

But, that was some years back, maybe they're changed?

The high school shop teacher had a connection who is selling them to me for $211 (I don't think I'm getting a road hazard though I'll need to double check that). He (the shop teach) and his grade 11-12 shop students (most of who I know) are gonna install them for me since they are winding down the year anyway. They just got brand spankin' new tire equipment in their shop too I'm hoping they'll have time to do me a 4-wheel aligenment as well

That woulda been 15 per tire on the install. Still, $982.80 after installation and GST (assuming there weren't some other sh!t - valve stems, recycle charge, other tire surcharges, etc., etc..) would have been a great deal imo. As it was I paid $905 but was very lucky to have the h.s. shop teacher connection). I'll maybe come back to this thread in august after my 5 week road trip and critique my new rubber. Thanks again PJ and everyone else for the advice.


Do most of yous think it's pretty much necessary to get an alignment after new rubber?

I had an alignment done in march or april but even after that there was pull but they (local dodge dealer service advisor) said it was because the tires were so badly worn and needed replacement. Now though, after my new tires have been installed, the pull and slight shake in the steering wheel are gone. Damn, I forgot even what it felt like to ride on new rubber...Lovin' the sweet ride.
