August 2004 I took my V8 Miata to our local drag strip. Broke a drive shaft U joint on my first run.

Converted the RX7 diff for a Ford T-Bird diff. This August I tried a hard launch on an empty country road. This time I broke an axle

The handling is very good. I often do some canyon carving with two other Miatas. One is turboed and the other is supercharged. I don't have any problems keeping up with them. The V8 torque is awesome.
Recently, the three of us were on a drive (Manning Park) when we were passed by a Boxster, as we were slowing down for highway construction. After the construction the Boxster took off and so did we. I was able to keep up with the Porsche through some very bumpy corners (barely, that Porsche suspension is beautiful), but my two buddies could not. As soon as we hit the first straight-a-way I easily pulled away.
The car is set up for highway cruising, with a fairly tall rear diff ratio (3.08), so 1/4 mile times are not as fast as they could be. I expect the car would easily do 13.5 in the quarter.
