I wonder how the pricing will compare to the Mazda5.

Karens have been available in other markets for a couple of years. If the new model gets more power and much better interior quality/flexability, it should give Mazda5 some competition.

Interesting, though it will be tough to beat the 5's value for dollar - they come quite well equipped for the money.

Better hope they are REALLY redesigning the exterior of the existing Carens, because this is what it looks like :

Although outgoing Karens looked and drive boring, it serves perfectly as an appliance.

That's a pretty smart blending of compact car and tall-windowed wagon that manages to pull it all together nicely.

Kia readies Rondo for U.S. lineup
Dale Jewett | | Automotive News / April 13, 2006 - 10:24 am
Korean automaker Kia is taking aim at the Mazda5 with a new small wagon. The Kia will be called the Rondo when it goes on sale in the United States and Canada in 2007 as a 2008 model. The Rondo shares a platform with the Kia Sportage and Spectra and Hyundai Elantra.
U.S. buyers will likely get a choice of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 2.7-liter V-6. The seven-seat vehicle, which is about 14.8 feet long, will wear the Carens nameplate in other markets and will offer a diesel engine outside North America.
Kia will show the vehicle publicly for the first time at the Madrid auto show in late May.
The rear is particularily nice and shares family resemblance to Sportage. This vehicle appears so much smaller than Mazda5 to me tho. Can't see how it could have 3 rows of useable seating.

The styling is a huge improvement over its rather blend predecessor.

IMHO the Mazda5 is far superior in styling. There would have to be a fairly large pricing advantage to steal the Mazda5 Zoom Zoom.

The concept is nice for a drawing. Getting it on the road may be a different matter. Hyundai has done well with their 7/24 push, and one would suspect that to flow down to child company Kia.
