2007 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

2007 Mercedes-Benz GL-ClassMercedes-Benz' new full-size luxury SUV is "comfortable and agile in city and highway driving yet genuinely capable in off-road situations," reports Editor Greg Wilson.  "This versatility and magical lightfootedness is what sets the GL 450 apart from its competition," he says.  The new 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL 450 arrives in Canada in May.       More...

as fugly as I found the G-class, it had more character than what can be found in a new GL class piloted by Stephen Mansfield.  It's very vanilly nice.

I can't believe how impressed I am with how Mercedes-Benz is keeping current and improving their product while maintaining their 'look' and prestige.

While I'm a fan of the G-Wagen, I also find the GL a very appealing vehicle. It's large, is usefully long and thus capable of carrying 3 rows of people in comfort AND a few pieces of luggage, but doesn't look (or drive, apparently) unweildly. Almost looks more compact than it is to me. After sitting in the Q7 and outgoing Suburban, I can see why someone would want something larger - it's not quite roomy enough considering it's size, so I hope to get up and close to see if the big Benz is any better.

I find the exterior very Benz-derivative, but handsome nevertheless with little lines that set it apart (like the shape of the rear pillar). Both the exterior and interior don't seem to skimp at all in materials, executed very well.

This is a very compelling vehicle to me. Tops in segment. Can't wait till the CDI's arrive!

The GL looks like it will be competitive and to be sure with the CDI
engine it might even attract buyers who value the better economy
and reliability inherent to diesel.

It is the second review I read indicating the vehicle drives very well and like a significantly smaller vehicle. I find the exterior design not as accomplished as the new ML one but it is a good looking SUV. The interior craftmanship looks very good as well. I like how the new ML drives; would be curious to find out about that one.

If I had the money, I'd save a few thousand and get an R-Class. AWD, 6 passenger limo-like seating, more fuel efficient, why not?

I don't think so. MB is keeping the G around for that purpose and some die hard fans apparently.

Which won't happen as long as troops are deployed in the Middle East and Africa. So the G will be around for a while.

Have to agree with Sir A on this being a really nice vehicle. I like it so much that I put it on the top the list of vehicles I want to have or need to have.......when I win the 649.  Embarrassed

Pricing is not bad at $76,5, but just like every BMW/Benz, options really add up. Still, for such a large vehicle, I'm surprised it's not more. Mind you, it is built in the US. The old $112+ G-Class tank will certainly be more exclusive.
