Don't know about the pricing though. You're getting into some serious competition in that price range. I guess the advantage is the extra doors. But like I said in another thread, I would buy something really nice, and save some of that extra dough for a beater or something.

Still, an impressive machine, nonetheless.

Clearly a very fast ride and clearly Audi is on some heavy meds to even
consider asking such a lofty sum for this car. It's funny Audi makes some
great cars until you put them through some normal 'wear and tear' and
you soon find out how well that 'four link' front suspension works in the
real word (see Montreal roads) and wonder why the links need replacing
every 50,000 km's or so or why electrical gremlins pop up without the
least bit of warning and why the dealers after a while don't appear to
be on your side as you're considered more of a nuisance than a valued
customer. Of course it's YOU that has to keep coming back to fix the problems with
such a fine piece of German engineering. I used to work at a VW/Audi
dealer believe me things haven't changed...

Those who appreciate VW/Audi as an enthuisasts, would accept their quirks and faults. I have owned 5 VW/Audis and none of them have serious problems. Front control arm replaced under warranty. None of them have electronic problems.

Those who appreciate VW/Audi as an enthuisasts, would accept their quirks and faults. I have owned 5 VW/Audis and none of them have serious problems. Front control arm replaced under warranty. None of them have electronic problems.

The problem is when the car is off warranty that things aren't so rosy....the 4 link front end with attached ball joints is a weak design (ball joints no bigger than your index finger) therefore do not stand up well to wear and tear. Thankfully there is aftermarket links available but you're still looking at $200.00 a piece for them times
8 so it can be costly to say the least.

Amazing car, but the price really is a bit much. Should have been in the mid-80's or so, especially since some of the cool tidbits from Europe are missing from the North American model.

My 97 B5 with over 200000km still works and drives like its brand-new without any kind of warranty. I don't see what's the big deal.

Maybe it's a function of the kind of roads you drive...here in Quebec ours are horrid and
two of my friends have late model Audi's and have changed all 8 links at least once
and neither has anything over 120,000km's

Vancouver's roads are known for poorly paved, lack of proper freeway system and "Afaghanistan at night". Our B5 has only changed front control arm suspension once-and-for-all.

I'm pretty sure Quebec/Montreal roads are worse than those in BC, but have no additional input.

As someone who has lived in Montreal and Vancouver, Montreal has the serious smack-down on Vancouver for terrible roads.  No lack of maintenance in Vancouver can compete with frost heaves, endless salt, and those oh-so-quick-workers of the city of montreal.

I was wrong. That's what I get for relying on my brain. The weights are close though.
Brand new A8 weighs 4288 pounds. RS4 weighs  3957lbs.
2001 S8 weighs 4067 lbs...
