Day-by-Day Review: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT; Day 3
So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

Test Drive:
2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500Despite the fact that the new Shelby GT500 does not have an independent rear suspension or an advanced stability-control system it's "remarkably agile and light on its feet," says Laurance Yap. The GT500's 500-hp supercharged V8 engine is not just powerful, it's also very flexible. "On a pure power-per-dollar basis, the Ford Shelby GT500 eclipses just about everything else out there," he says.     More...

Brigitte, if you liked the exhaust note of the GT, just think of what this one would sound like.  Bow Bounce Yum Yum

Bang for buck King......but this King is a bit fat eh?  4000lb?  Guess no weight saving technology went into the car to keep price down.  With prior Cobra's....the SVT badge was also added to the name.  I recall Ford was debating whether to use Shelby or SVT....guess Shelby won.  Anybody know where Colletti went then?

Not a big fan of the stripes....but this car looks hot.

This "moded" Mustang shouldn't be compared to the Chevrolet Corvette.  It's like comparing a suped-up Accord to an NSX.  The closest thing would be the new Camaro but I doubt Chevy is gonna make a 500 HP version.  Grin

GT500, Z06 and GT40 are probably the best deal in the sports car world!

It's a factory offered vehicle.  Much like the Z06 is a modded Vette....this horse has some kick...with warranty to boot.  For the price (MSRP from the dealer), this thing can easily be compared to the C6, 911,  Viper etc.  Too bad the 911 doesn't have a 50K sticker price.

Will the GT500 have lots of power and a great sound? ... sure.  I'm just waiting to see it on a track and how it's gonna put all that power to the pavement?  Even with the name Shelby on the car ... I remain very skeptical.  Lips Sealed

The greatest Muscle Car ever produced. It faired reasonably well in the Car and Driver comparison test vs. the Z06. The Mustang was disappointing in straight line acceleration even with the 100 extra HP, I’m sure a diet is in order. Handling was good considering it is a MUSCLE CAR.

What is the GT40? The new Ford $225plus hot rod is called the GT; is that what you meant?

If so, I would concur on your comment regarding the GT500 and the Z06 (or even plain vanilla C6), but the GT is hardly a bargain price for the power. I would far rather have either the Shelby or the Vette and have $150K left over.  Wink

If your not a fan of the stripes on this Mustang, don't worry.  They come off easily, very easily.  If you look closly at the rear and passenger side, the stripes are already coming off.  The rear end has a missing section and the passenger side is missing most of the stripe on the door.
Maybe it was journalists picking at the stripes because they didn't like them and wondered how easily they would come off...

I think Ford should have used the 5.0l 'cammer' motor they have in the Ford
racing catalogue. It's a race proven and competitive engine that albeit doesnt
have 500hp on tap is lighter and almost as powerful as the supercharged engine
in the GT500. Overall though this is one baaaaaaaaad muscle car!

Just happened to be by one of the Ford dealers here today, and my salesman friend pulled out his new price/specs list for 2007 and claims the GT500 Convertible will be $51K, the coupe should be about $46 or $47k if that is correct. Maybe the stronger Cdn dollar is coming into play afterall.  Huh I would guess that you're looking at about $10K more than a GT, whether coupe or convertible. The '07 Mustang GT convertible base price moves from $36,999 for 2006 to $37,500 for 2007.  Cool

$51,199CAD for the coupe and $56,099CAD for the convertible. The only option in the catalogue is the Shaker 1000 audio system that retails for $1,975.

Ford's cammer engine and Racing Program is hardly a "boy racer" program...serious adults and serious money are involved in it; but if that has to be explained to you, you really are not an auto race fan, nor much of a car fan. The comment is ignorant of the truth of the manufacturer's racing programs. Meh.. Tongue
