Day-by-Day Review: 2009 Honda Pilot
Honda has taken the Pilot in a more truckish direction, says James, and though it's a large vehicle, he finds it's quite easy to park. On the whole, though, he finds the Pilot's powertrain and all-wheel drive system aren't as good as those in Ford's crossovers.

You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
Test Drive:
2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450

2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450All-new for 2007, the GL450 is based on the M-Class, but with three rows of seats and a 4.6-litre V8. The ride is "ridiculously comfortable," says Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, "and the level of luxury and impressive acceleration are top-notch." But "you never forget just how big this vehicle really is."     More...

I've seen one of these already, in white. Looked pretty good. Stylish, yet classy and not offensive. I can think of much better ways to spend $88K though...

I quite like the available off road package...  if I had a dime for every new Mercedes I've seen on the trails...   Roll Eyes

I believe one could get a 530xit on the road and a couple of years running costs for that money.   better gas consumption, easier to park and MUCH better looking.

And let's not forget a heck of a lot more fun to drive, and available with a manual transmission (if I recall correctly).  Sporty wagons rock.

Options: $9,750 (Interior Light & Leather Upholstery Package, $2,500; Premium Package, $3,900; Factory cellular phone prep, $850; Harman/Kardon Logic7 Surround Sound, $1,200; wood-and-leather steering wheel, $850; rear side airbags, $450)
Freight: $1,795

What?  MB wants $850. for a nice steering wheel and $1200. for the top audio?

At this price level, stuff like this should be standard.

And yes, it looks pedestrian for a premium SUV.  I like the smaller M class better.

Don't be too sure about that - Clarkson thought so and got bombed in the end (ok, it was without ammo).

I like the look of this thing myself. It's large but I think conceals it well and I find it looks more SUV-ish (not necessarily rugged or cubic squared, but not 'fat' or ultra chic) than lots of others coming out lately. The rear end pillar treatment and such looks solid but not droopy or heavy. Just right. I'll have to hop inside one to test space... I'm hoping it's usefully large for its purpose.

I'd probably rather have one of those sporty SUVs too, but I'm not so sure that the GL's competitors really include the likes of the Cayenne or Infiniti FX45.

Just given the size of the thing, it seems to me that it's really aimed at folks who are also considering a Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator.

I hadn't thought about that, but I just don't think it looked like it was in the same size category as the Escalade or Navigator.  If forced to choose between those 3, I'd probably choose the Escalade - has a much better presence
