GM has officially launched the newest generation of its Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks, reports Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, who says these new models offer stiffer frames, better ride, stronger brakes and improved interiors. It's "much better than the truck it replaces," she says, and it straddles comfort and capability in a way that "should pretty much keep everyone happy."

A welcome update of GM pickups. The Interior design is much improved (that wasn't hard to accomplish) and so is the stiffer frame. The exterior design is very bland -Ford did a much better with the F150 a few years ago IMO- though it is not a deciding factor for most customers in this category. Still, with the Avalanche looking so good, GM could have done a little better with the entire pickup line.

Looking forward to taking one for a spin.  I've already test driven the '07 Avalanche, and found it extremely smooth riding.  For all the accessories and features you get standard with the Avalanche, it will be a tough choice between it and the Silverado.

Saw one up close for the first time yesterday. Vaguely 'Titanish' from the side, blocky from the front. Best looking pickup is still a tie between Ford and Dodge, IMO.

Great looking trucks but the front-end of those things are huge.  It may be a little less stylish than the Ford but it doesn't really matter in this segment with the Silverado/Sierra/Avalanche selection.

The new Toyota Tundra is gonna be as big or even bigger than the Ford/GM trucks ... with all those big toys coming out the Dodge is starting to look small-ish.

I wonder what the drag coefficient is on these trucks.  It probably doesn't matter at all to a truck used for work on and around a job site , but I shudder at the amount of fuel needed to push one down the highway at an airspeed of 120km/h. This is not a criticism of the GM trucks particularly, but I wonder why they are not smoothed out a bit especiially underneath

Its a nice truck and a significant improvement over the previous generation.  I still believe that the F150 is a nicer looking truck, but GM has Ford smoked from an engine choice standpoint.  Ford needs help in that area.  Considering that this will be GM's "battle truck" against Toyota and others it will be interesting to see how it does.

I much prefer the GMC over the Chevrolet as well, even for the tail light treatment. Styling is updated but still very much on the utilitarian end of things. Larger wheels (pictured on the silver Sierra and black Silverado) do wonders to make the truck appear more substantial.

Funny she talks about what American will think that their truck was built in Canada, my last two trucks were built in the USA

What's even funnier is the next Camaro will be built in Canada (as the old one was of course).

So our neighbors are used for their pure GM American iconic vehicles to be built by Canadians...  Now we just need to get the 'Vette over here...
