Why is Honda selling these things at 1.33-1.36 time the US price?  This is getting ridiculous now with the loony at 0.91US.

And why is transport "only" $595.US and $1505.Can overhere?

And howcome the AWD option is only $1200.US and $2000.Can overhere. An exchange rate of 1.66.

Too bad auto journalists don't tackle the issue in their roadtests.

Clearly, Honda doesn't want to sell CRV's to canadians and I hope they stay on their lots judging by the number I see around here.

This new CRV is 3-5K too dear.

CR-V LX AWD (as tested) 60 months @ 5.9%, $682.35/month = $40,941.00 = ouch.

exchange rate is an interesting topic.... not too many years ago when the Canadian $$ is so weak... buying car from Canada was cheaper than buy in US... why wouldn't we complaint it at the time?

as economy is getting better in here, we benefit from it .......but at the same time, we need to pay Relatively higher price tag (actual cost in Canadian $ not being raised much except inflation, IMO) ...... man, we are living in a conflicting world Cry .....

The CRV, as well as the RAV4, are ridiculously high priced in Canada. And for the s**t load of money they ask for, they don't give you anything that you wouldn't get in a 15-16K car. Not even a set of half-decent looking wheels. Greg is right, you must be senseless to live with those wheels.
However, the crowds are buying them in large numbers. The CRV sells better than the RAV4 which at least offers an excellent V6.

It is a roomy little SUV, but a was surprise that it did not have power seats with the leather seats
It would be on my list if I was looking for a small SUV

It was cheaper....for a US resident to buy up here. Not for Canadians to buy anything anywhere, as in a a $40k car 5 years ago, even with a weak dollar, is still more or less just like $40k today. Still expensive.

Except now that $40k can buy you a lot more across the border...its like a new opportunity emerged making current pricing seem very off. Doesn't mean it was any "cheaper" back in the day, and there is certainly no reason why Canadians 5 years ago should have been happily jumping around saying "Look, our CRV is only $25k USD!".

Just on the edge of a weekend where gas prices went up at least 4 cents for no other reason than "greed", I'm quite thankful I chose the CRV over the RAV4 V6. Got just over 10,000km and the average since getting the vehicle back in December is 10.5L/100km (75% city driving). My last tank averaged 10.1L/100km and this was all in the city.

If you're tooling around town 90% of the time do you need an SUV or CUV? Our choice came down to the CR-V or the Fit. We spent two hours in the showroom debating the choice after having test driven both. One factor was the CR-V was going to cost about $13,000.00 more upfront and an additional $7,000.00 (I guessed) over it's lifetime in depreciation, gas, upkeep (tires etc) and insurance differences.

A few negatives about the CR-V were the sloping ceiling makes headroom tight on the sides of the rear seat, the brake pedal sits too close to the dead pedal and is thus annoying and potentially a hazard in an accident, the front leg-room is just adequate (the Fit has more oddly) and the rear seats hog too much room by not just folding over and making a flat surface. I aslo did not want TMS and the headache and cost of switching to winter tires.

Generally it is much more comfortable a ride. The Fit is a bit stiff and firm in the seats but the Fit was more fun to drive as well.

I think we would have been happy with either. I preferred the CR-V to the Rav-4 (even squishier up front) and the Outlander (too cheap on the inside).

yup, you got your point... i was arguing that if you think it is more expensive to buy cars in Canada than in US today(YES, it is ture,  I Agree). You can as well as go cross border to do car shopping to save money. This was what US people did back then.
I think it is unfortunate that since our land is just next to another, we could easily compare money value to get an item from US. I have also been living in another place that everything could have parallel import (same item but not import/get from official dealer), it makes me always wonder, as a consumer, you want your economy to be good(dollar value high, seems like u need to pay higher than surrounding area) or bad (dollar value low, but you seems better to buy things cheaper locally)?


Talking about the look of the car, i was so exciting when i see it on the web (obviously the top model, with alloy wheel Roll Eyes). But once I see it in real world, it is so disappointed, i wish as Greg Wilson said, hope it looks better as time go.

Yep but you don't have to cross the border to get more. A FWD CX-7 GS comes in at $41,583 after 60 months @ 3.9% $693.06/month or $642 more in total. According to mazda.ca there is currently a first payment on us deal so you're basically even.

Or a Mz6 Wagon (GS) with 6-Auto (save more with a manual), GFX and Roof for only $638.12 @ 1.9% over 60 mths = $38,287.20
Plus it offers better mileage and more room than the CX7  Wink

The HonToys will likely be better in that case, as in resale as well.

Resale does go to the HonToys for sure but I would think that servicing would be a tie.

I don't understand how Honda sells these here because the value just isn't there. Buyers must be paying for the Honda name/mystique and not thinking rationally. Ugly, cheap wheels, a 4-banger, front end styling that looks like a '42 Olds, all for close to $40 grand? Yikes.

I agree, the interest rates from Honda are to high.  I posted the same criticism on a un-named Honda website and I got crapped on.  Some clown from Honda had the site administrator send me an e-mail regarding my inappropriate posting.

We as Canadians put up with it because we are to nice to complain.
