Built exclusively in Ontario, the Ford Edge is "a very good crossover" despite some flaws, says Assistant Editor, Jil McIntosh. The engine is punchy, the ride smooth and the seats are extremely comfortable, although brakes and liftgate need improvement. Best of all, she says, the base SE model has enough features that you don't have to move up to a higher priced version.

I believe you meant CX-7, as it's the kissing-cousin of the Ford Edge (and Lincoln MKX).

As to MSRP, well, similar to the low-end Escape vs. better appointed Tribute, the Mazda CX-7 is a very different beast, in so much as it's a turbo'd 2.3L I4 vs. a 3.5L V6.  They're meant for different market segments and thus don't compete with one-another...otherwise it would be pointless for the FoMoCo family to have three similar SUVs competing with one-another.

Think the CX-9 standard equipment list is longer, and that it is quite a bit larger so more able to justify the price difference. The Edge interior is nice, but I think the Mazda nicer (except no Vista  ). Would say if you want a V6 and don't need THAT much room, the Edge presents far better value.

The CX-7 somewhat smaller, but sportier.

Neither is middle-of-the-road, which is nice.

The CX-9 is the Edge/MKX cousin.

I look at the CX9 as basically being a stretched Edge, with the Mazda touch.  Either the Edge is too inexpensive, or the CX9 is too expensive...I mostly think the latter.

I test drove a loaded CX9 and a top model Edge about a month ago. The CX-9 seemed kind of pricey in compared to the Edge although I didn't care for the interior in either. Is it just me or is anyone else sick of manufacturers all jumpimg on the "stark" black and silver/titanium dash bandwagon

Direct competitors are Acadi, CX-7 and Murano.

For the record ,the Acadia DOES have a third row.  A real third row too, not those ludicrously small ones like in the RAV4 and Outlander.  The Acadia is also minivan-huge, not midsized.  It's the largest crossover on the market, to my knowledge.  In short, the Acadia should not be compared to the Edge, Murano, or CX-7.
