CarTalkCanada Review: 2008 Audi A5
On the road, the A5 is two different cars, depending on what mood you're in: quiet and composed on the highway but a ton of fun in the twisties, with lots of power to push you through corners.

Used Vehicle Review:
Mazda6, 2003-2007

Mazda6, 2003-2007Smaller but sportier:
A bit smaller than the Camry and Accord, the Mazda6 has a reputation as more of a driver's car.  Built in Michigan at a joint Mazda/Ford plant, the Mazda6's reliability has been average, says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase.

The 4cyl 6 Sport (i.e. Hatch) is on the list for the eventual replacement to the P5.

Engine choices were two: a 2.3-litre four-cylinder (160 hp) and a 3.0-litre V6 (220 hp); transmissions were a five-speed manual available with either motor, or a four-speed automatic for four-cylinder cars and a five speed auto with the V6 engine. In 2005, the five-speed auto was replaced by a six-speed gearbox.

I thought in 2005 the added a 5 speed AUTO w/the 2.3L engine?

I've put almost 90K on my 6-Wgn and loved everyone one of them. I've only had the FCM replaced as this was very common, otherwise no issues. Tonnes of room in the trunk and then with the seats folded down I can actually sleep back there (and do) on long trips. Throw my roof box on top and I'm gone for two months!

On the hwy I find this car at home with the engine turning over at only 3G while at 150kph its helps give good mileage back. Personally I get between 8-9.5 L/100 depending on the speed/conditions/load.

For the money, this is a great pick in the wagon catagory...then again there isn't many other choices.

The 2006 Sport I test drove had the 5speed auto with 2.3L.

The Mazda6's apparently spotty reliability history is fairly troubling.

That would put me off owning one of these cars. Also these cars are thirsty.  Undecided

I think I'm beginning to discover why though. Mazda used to be bullet proof. But look at the 3 and now the 6. Mazda needs to nip this one in the bud to  maintain their steller customer image.

I leased a Mazda 6 manual  trans hatch in Aug 07.  At less than 7500 km (slightly less than 3 months) the dealer replaced the front discs.  I have since been told by another Mazda 6 owner that he has had premature wear problems on the brakes.  Any history on this?  I have also noticed that the cruise is constantly adjusting and have stopped using it until the dealer figures it out.  Cruise issues anyone?  Apart from that, a delight to drive...

I'm coming up on 90K and still on my original rotors and pads plus no vibrations under braking.

Also no problems with my cruise and I use it a lot (once traffic clears of course).

A colleague of mine bought a red sport 4 years ago. He loves the way it drives, hates the time he's spent in the shop with it. He says his 2000 Protege 4-dr sedan was more reliable than his 6 has been. He's trading into a CX7 next.

I think I'm beginning to discover why though. Mazda used to be bullet proof. But look at the 3 and now the 6. Mazda needs to nip this one in the bud to  maintain their steller customer image.

The 2004 and 2005 Mazda3 got a "better than average" reliability rating from Consumer Reports, and the 2006 got a "far better than average" rating.  The Mazda6 never broke above "average," at least with the V6, and most of the issues are not engine-specific.  Transmission, brakes, and body integrity are three weak points.
