Day-by-Day Review: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT; Day 3
So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

I see I've jumped late into the game, but Johngenx, weren't you the same guy very much put off by the Toyota's dealer's arrogance?

Actually the sales experience has been a treat.  Our salesperson was very low key and overall the process was the best new car buying experience I've had.  There was no attempt to upsell us on anything.  There was no documentation fee or other suprises.  I have been very put off in the past at various Toyota dealers, but this time they impressed me.  Go figure.

Our 09 Corolla is in Magnetic Grey.  Delivery is Thursday night...

And yes, the missus likes it very much, so it's coming home.  Now I have the Scoob and she has the Toyota.

The Corolla is not an enthusiast car, but as an economical commuter, it is now about the best new car value imaginable.  Civic, Fit, 3 are all priced higher now when equipped like a Corolla.  The CE AT enhanced package is $20,700 including GST (Alberta) and with cruise, pw, pdl, keyless, heated power mirrors and AC, that's a lot of car for the dough.

Only if you have got the cash. Leasing, the Honda Civic is much cheaper, and if purchase financing over 60 the Mazda3 GX is less by $12/month.

Nice car though, had a look at it at the Calgary show. Congratulations!

It's interesting that the three makes chose to lower prices by three different methods, Honda by offering low lease interest, Mazda by lowering purchase interest, while Toyota just cut MSRP.

I think I'd rather have a unreliable Merc than a boring Toyota for myself only.  However... if Mrs JohnGenX likes her Corolla  that's the end of the story.  Mrs tpl doesn't drive my BMW 'cos she doesn't like how it drives so she gets her Fit which we both like driving.

I only paid attention to the prices of the various cars, as we're paying cash.  Here are the breakdowns if you consider financing...

Toyota Corolla CE with AT and Enhanced package... $20,757 or $400 dead on with GST over 60 mos for a total cost of $24,000
Civic DX-G with AT...  $23,199 or $416 over 60 mos (better financing rate) with GST for a total cost of $24,960.

The Honda, to me (cash buyer) is $2442 more, but to the financing buyer, only $960 more.

I wish that Honda/Nissan/etc. would just lower the price and forget dicking around with financing rates.  Though we preferred the Corolla to the Civic, Honda's price was a major factor.

I Agree says the guy who drives a VW and whose wife drives a Toyota...

Are there no cash rebates for the Ciivc?

The Toyota rates might be higher than others because the Corolla is a brand new 09 model, give it 5-6 months and I would image the rates to be on par with Honda/Nissan.
And by that time if Honda/Nissan still haven't reduced their prices, Toyota would gain a lot of sales.

just bought a black XRS automatic, what a sweet machine. Anybody who knows cars understands that Civics and Corollas are not meant for the quarter mile or track. they are just rock solid dependable economical transportation. If you can throw a couple extra grand, go for the XRS it's a head turner, much nicer styling than the older Sport models or XRS model too.
