Day-by-Day Review: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT; Day 3
So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

Hmmmm...wonder why there isn't some huge rash of dead Europeans caused by the deadly Smart? Or others pitching a fit about how unsafe their Smart is and how it could be allowed to be offered for sale in Europe??

Are you attributing the lack of dead Europeans to the Smart's safety mechanisms or low accident rate?

I'm just saying if it was as dangerous as everyone thinks, the safety-conscious Euros wouldn't be selling this thing...

I wasn't answering the question "is the Smart a total deathtrap?"  I was answering the question "is the Smart as safe as more normal-sized cars?"  Many people go off that video of a Smart crash test and the IIHS "good" rating and say "yes."  But the answer, according to the NHTSA's numbers for the Fortwo and Corolla, is a clear "no."

Life is dangerous, and I'll just make my choices based on what works.  I do like that our new 'Rolla has tons of safety gear, but I also ride motorcycles, climb mountains and other risky things.  If I really wanted a Smart (and I would if it was a 3L/100km car) then I'd just figure that some compromises are required for such economy.

Hopefully as the Hummer population goes to the scrap heap, cars like the Smart won't be so vulnerable.  We need to decrease the number of 3000kg behemoths on the road.  It would be safer for EVERYONE.

Gas prices are helping the process along nicely.
