Day-by-Day Review: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT; Day 3
So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

Used Vehicle Review:
Jaguar X-Type, 2002-2008

Jaguar X-Type, 2002-2008Poor resale values mean a used Jaguar X-Type can be purchased fairly inexpensively, says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase.  But be aware that the X-Type's reliability has been worse than average in its class, he notes.

I always considered the X type to be the spiritual successor to my old Contour SVT. I even kicked around ideas of picking up a used 3.0L Jag x type and adding a few of the SVT go fast bits. I'm glad I didn't... Grin

I think the wagon is cool, but the cost of Jag service/parts/repairs is astronomical.

Never cared much for the X-Type. The S-Type looked great - one of those in V6/5spd would be a fine car. Not that I'd ever own such an obvious money pit though.

That is the funny thing. I bet that 95% of the X type was comprised out of standard off the shelf Ford parts. The X type was nothing more than the Mondeo (Contour) II from Europe.

It has been suggested that the X-Type uses brake calipers that are prone to seizing, which can subsequently cause further brake problems, as well as negatively affect fuel consumption.

Jeesh, our 96 Mystique suffered from that too.  They could not fix it by the time the X came out?

If one were to buy one of these used you'd need a second one as a parts car.

I used to admire the Wagon they had in the ajoining Jag dealershipeverytime I had my VOlvo v50 in for service (which was frequently) . What a lovley looking wagon especially with the sport package big wheels they had on it.

But yes I agree with the general consensus. These things will sit on lots practically forever. If you have to buy a used X type at 12-15K to "drive a jaG" you most likley can't afford the upkeep. Its not even just the spotty reliability or high part prices. Just pray that some Jag specific part doesn't fail that you can only order through the local Jag dealer that will take a month to arrive.

I love the look, especially the wagon. I even looked at a used wagon. But I just couldn't justify taking the risk.
