I think that Nissan should sell the GT-R as it is, and Infiniti should sell a sedan with a GT-R-based chassis, GT-R engine, four doors, rear-wheel drive, a choice between a six-speed manual and a dual-clutch, Infiniti ride quality and sound deadening, and a more traditional (and more luxurious) Infiniti interior and exterior.

I agree...  an AMG M45 kind of thing.  Now Infiniti just needs a funky moniker for a performance division.  GT-M?   Undecided

All the good letters are chosen.  V, M, RS, SS, Type S, Spec V, and the word "Speed" are all gone.  Shyte, Lexus had to go with "F."  How lame is that?  (And yes, I know about Fuji raceway, but "F" became ultra-lame the moment the phrase "F is for fast" started bouncing around the internet).  What's left.  B?

I dunno, Jaguar might be pissed.  XJR, XKR, S-Type R, etc.  I think they'd want something that didn't reek of imitating an established luxury performance line.

And even though I wasn't serious about the B, I realized Subaru already uses it (Spec B).

How many people even know that Jaguar uses the R? And besides, it is a trim designation (G35-R) rather than an integral part of the model name, or perhaps just a cool letter to stick on the back.

Audi, BMW, and Merc have good systems. A few flaws here an there though, like BMW X5xDrive4.5i or whatever that abomination is called, and Merc has too many model lines (ie: Mercedes Benz SLK63 AMG Black Edition...does that exist?).

Actually, with Jaguar it's also a trim designation.  The XKR is the high-performance XK coupe.  The XJR is the high-performance XJ sedan.  The S-Type R is the high-performance S-Type sedan.  Etc.

I know it may seem silly to debate this, but considering that BMW sued Infiniti for using the letter M, I can understand a desire to find something unique.

The alphabet soup thing is tiresome and in some cases insipid or misleading such as both the 325i and the 330i sharing a 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder engine though output is different. MB do the same with the C230 with a 2.5L motor. Odd.

Bikes do the alphabet soup thing too, but at least a person knows that a GSX-R750 has a 750cc motor, the R1 & R6 are a bit more obtuse but represent 1000cc and 600cc respectively.

Think back a few years when Evo's, Skyline's, Exiges and the like weren't available, now it looks like manufacturers are opening their eyes to the Canadian motoring enthusiast's market.  A great thing IMHO, and hopefully cross-border shopping will also do it's bit to give a bit of power and choice to the car buyer in Canada.

But when did the highest performance trim level have a name?  Even with the 1967 Camaro, there was the "Camaro SS."  Even with the 1965 Mustang, there was the "Mustang GT."

The very desirable RS/SS combo meant you had a Rally Sport Super Sport.  I am just thinking back now...
