Does it mean that, being cheaper to produce, will be cheaper too? I hope so.
Cheaper and better would make it a very appealing option.

A bit, possibly, but the savings will go in large part to making the car (and brand) more profitable.  That may not have immediate short-term gains for Golf buyers, but it's very important for R&D and the long-term health of VW.

Takes a while to get to the car review but bare with it...

Quote
It’s all very well having direct petrol injection and a supercharger to fill in the black hole while the turbo girds its loins: this is clever, but my God it’s jerky.

I like the power delivery of an engine to be smooth, like a ball bearing rolling down a child’s playground slide. In the GT it’s delivered with the smoothness of someone in a wheelchair falling down some stairs.

I Agree

Last time I checked they were losing money on US & CAD MKVs (right?).. All other cars in this segment cost (and take) significantly less to make.. they had to do something about that, as I understand it Smiley

oh well, maybe some of the cash will go towards a new engine..

also the MKVI rides on the same platform as the MKV and has a different rear suspension setup, true? It's still multi-link right, hope they didn't go the Astra way..

I can't believe they didn't know how much it would cost to build the MkVs BEFORE they started production. They've been at it (making cars) for a while now.

Anyone know if VW is stopping with its trademark (and -brilliant-, imo) blue and red dash illumination colour theme on the inside???

From looking at the several interior photos provided in the gallery, i have the bad feeling that the blue and red might be no more. . . ! ?

Looks to me like a white illumination.  Sad

Man, that’d suck. Its one of the most distinct things abt VWs… LOVE it. Think it’ll be a real shame, myself, if they change that. That very cool blue and red interior illumination is very impressive and one of my favourite things abt VW! Looks better (far more impressive) than any other night lighting colour scheme ive seen on any other vehicle.

Have to agree with that sentiment, I have always loved that blue illumination, looks very classy.

Add to that, the dull Toyota-like rear end...

I have read somewhere (can't remember where) that the blue instrument cluster illumination will be replaced by white. As for the red dash illumination, I haven't seen anything about this.

I love the way VWs look.  I love the way they drive.  I REALLY like their interiors.  I just hate the way they fall apart.

+ 1.
I have always thought of VW as being a "poor man's" BMW.

I LOVE the look of the Passat...much better than the Accord, Camry. The Passat CC is even better.

This Golf...wow. Perhaps a Protege replacement? Wink

I meant red indicators... on alll the dash buttons, the door buttons, etc.  Oh, and on the computer readout screen too, obviously.

So yeah, looks like they are indeed, as someone stated above. . .

From this photo, looks like on the gauge pod, all will be white illumination, including the information display, which looks like will be white on black too.

I dont even drive a VW and I'm really going to miss the whole blue illumination w/ red indictors theme!  Cry

I think it is an improvement.   especially the fuel and temp gauges not being in tunnels

On the Golf/Jetta they weren't, just GTI/GLI. New GTI Studie isn't tunneled anymore tho... didn't really like that aspect either.

I'll miss the blue. The ice white is nice and crisp 'n techy, but not as inviting.

Since the Tiguan diesel is questionable, Golf TDI would be my alternative.

Golf TDI would be will be my next. Assuming that Diesel fuel is affordable by then.  It willprobably be the Golf VII by then anyway, 3.5 to 4.5 years from now.

2010......2010 til we get a tdi in a golf. Yikes!!!!! Damn those mexicans take along time to make diesels. Can you imagine if they start adding turbos, superchargers and Picante Bean burritos to Rabbits. Or maybe we will be all spared the land crossing and get them directly from the FatherLand. That would be a stepup for sure.
Takes a while to get to the car review but bare with it...sic clarkson
Clarkson he's a wonder. The only guy I know that reviews a car and spend more time talking about his expedition thru a car park and a place where their too many Cones than the car itself. Guess he figures there are enough people doing the other type of reviews, specs and that other extraneous stuff.
