Day-by-Day Review: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT; Day 3
So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

It would probably do surprisingly well.

2001 F150 in standard IIHS 40 mph frontal impact test:

2008 fortwo tested the same way:

And the 2004 F-150 that did well:

The IQ did well in Europe. 5 stars.
9 airbags!!!

Much better than the Scion TC, which was worst in it's tested class and cost it a CR recommendation:

Autoblog's comment on their most recent podcast was that Scion was a marketing experiment that has just about run it's course...

That's actually pretty accurate.  The xB and the xD, the bread-and-butter of their sales, are basically reskinned Toyotas (Matrix XRS and Yaris five-door, to be specific).  The only meaningful difference besides aesthetics is the Corolla engine in the xD instead of a Yaris engine, but otherwise it's a five-door Yaris.  Adding new bodywork and a new name to an existing model...isn't this what GM has been extensively criticized for doing?

In the modern global economy, the "nationality" of a car brand is a meaningless construct.

In a way its important to have a brand / type of car that's a magnet for all the poor street racers, ricers, and hooligans so they can pool the crash statistics, leaving the rest of us free to drive Audis and Volvos.
