               just had e test and falled bad on my hydrocarbans. @ 40 kms and curb idle. service engine light
              stays on. any help would be great!!!

Your 1997 car has OBD-II, and the Service Engine light is on because of stored codes.  Those codes are needed to know what part(s) is malfunctioning.  Pretty much every shop today has at least the basic code reader.

Pretty much every shop today has at least the basic code reader.

I bought one on sale at Princess Auto for $40.  They aren't even supposed to test it if the check engine light is on.
