So the Genesis Coupe isn't the most practical sports car around, says James, but what really matters here is how the car drives. And it's in that department that this car really shines, he says.

Used Vehicle Review:
2000-2003 Nissan Maxima

2009 Nissan Altima 2.5 SLIf you want a fifth-generation Maxima, Contributing Editor, Chris Chase recommends a 2000 or 2001 model with the 3.0-litre V6 and manual transmission rather than the 2002 or 2003 Maxima with the 3.5-litre engine and four-speed automatic.

I think the Maxima's were great cars. For the price of a used Civic/Corolla, you can buy a 2000+ with a V6 and 5 speed, great fun at even better price.

I jussed missed out on a 2000 5 speed se used 6 years ago. Regretted missing it. I admit that the styling was kinda funky (especially compared to the 96-99 Maxima ..I have a 99) But even the less powerful 3.0 V6 had plaenty of grunt with the 5 speed and was very reliable. Roomy interior. Good material quality. It even handeled OK. The 3.0 VQ 6 may have been the best of the line in terms of reliability/power/smootness ratio. If you don't care about the unpretty face (after all you sit inside the car) its a nice all around car. Capable of hauling 4-5 people in comfort, be an admerable highway cruiser and even a little bit of sport. There is a big group of enthusiasts for maximas and the VQ enguine out there to support you too.

Underrated if you ask me.

We had an '02 on a 4 year lease. Basicly had 4 years and about 90,000 kms of trouble free use. I don't remember it ever being in the shop for anything other than regular service.

My 2001 Maxima SE 5 speed - a car I kept for 7 years - was easily the most reliable car I have ever owned.

I've owned a 99 and 2003 SE.  Loved them both.  The 99 was a great highway cruiser.  It wasn't slow but it was very civil in the city and highway.  The 2003 had far more grunt.  It was rougher around the edges.  The engine sounded more enjoyable at 110 KM/H then at 50 km.  It didn't like going slow.  Reliability was great. Far more character then an Accord. Sold them both within 2 weeks of posting them on the internet.
