Hyundai

Hyundai Accent, 2000-2006
This car’s overall reliability picture is only so-so, says Contributing Editor, Chris Chase. “Automatic transmission problems are the main culprit”, “and engine starting problems appear to be a regular occurrence, too,” he says. “But resale values are definitely affordable.”

2009 Hyundai Sonata Limited V6
The “roomy” Hyundai Sonata received a mid-cycle makeover for 2009 and a much improved interior, reports contributor Brian Early. “The (optional) V6 moves the Sonata along with much less effort and considerably more refinement than the four,” he notes.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T
Starting at just $24,495, the turbocharged Genesis Coupe is a “good value”, “genuinely attractive” and “fun to drive” says Editor in chief, Greg Wilson. But the ride is “too stiff over broken pavement” and the rear seats “border on uninhabitable."

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring GL Sport automatic
The Hyundai Elantra Touring is a “simple, basic car, but it’s also a very nice one,” reports Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh, who loves its practicality and design, but reports a rough idle and wonders why stability control isn’t available.

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
For just over $35,000, the top-of-the-line Hyundai Santa Fe Limited is a good all-around value in the mid-sized, non-luxury SUV/crossover class, says Editor-in-chief, Greg Wilson, even though it’s no longer available with seven seats.

Hyundai Elantra, 2001-2006
The 2001 Elantra was Hyundai’s first serious competition with Japan, says Contributing Editor Chris Chase. Prices on 2001 to 2003 models are very attractive, but he warns to watch for trouble spots with transmissions and rear disc brakes.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Although it shares the Genesis luxury sedan’s name and rear-wheel drive platform, the Genesis Coupe is a very different car, says Managing Editor, Grant Yoxon. “The Genesis Coupe is a stylish, powerful, well-balanced and fun-to-drive sport coupe,” he reports.

2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 V8
“One of the better cars I’ve ever driven,” is how Assistant Editor Jil McIntosh describes the V8-powered Hyundai Genesis. It has a strong engine, nice ride and exceptional interior, but will it sell well under its traditionally lower-priced nameplate?

2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring
With class-leading interior and cargo room, a nicely-finished interior, and surprisingly sporty handling, the new Hyundai Elantra Touring four-door hatch is a keen new competitor for the popular Toyota Matrix and Mazda3 Sport. But there’s one important thing missing...
