GM Canada to be official automotive sponsor of Toronto Blue Jays baseball team

Oshawa, Ontario - General Motors of Canada and the Toronto Blue Jays announced that GM, and all its brands, will become the Official Automotive Sponsor of the Toronto Blue Jays, and GM and the Blue Jays will support a grassroots community baseball program.

Marc Comeau, Vice President of Sales, Service and Marketing for General Motors of Canada said, "General Motors has a long standing tradition of supporting amateur and professional sports in Canada. Our sponsorships include the Pontiac GMC Cup alpine ski racing program, Chevrolet Safe and Fun Hockey, and the Buick Scramble amateur golf program. We are very pleased to be partnering with the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Team to further our involvement in professional sports.

"GM's guiding principles and values for sports programs are to make them inclusive and fun for communities across the country. With the grassroots community baseball clinics, the partnership between General Motors and the Blue Jays takes sports sponsorship to the next level."

The agreement between General Motors of Canada and the Toronto Blue Jays includes GM vehicle displays and signage at Skydome, promotional activities and programs, player appearances, and amateur baseball clinics. GM Canada and the Blue Jays will host a number of amateur baseball clinics in and around the Toronto area this summer. Details on the clinics will be announced soon.

Paul Godfrey, President & CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays, said, "We are honoured to have General Motors of Canada join our team and especially pleased that the partnership extends to include our friends with Rogers Sportsnet, The Fan 590 and Sportsco. This is an effective example of convergence at work. We thank GM for their support and look forward to working with them in growing the sport at the grassroots level."

The Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club was established in 1976 and began play in 1977 in the American League of Professional Baseball. In 1985 the Blue Jays won their first of five American League East Division Titles and in 1992 and 1993 won back-to-back World Series titles, becoming the first team outside the United States to win the World Series. In September of 2000, Rogers Communications Inc., led by President & CEO Ted Rogers, purchased controlling interest of the franchise.
