New Volkswagens will play music from USB sticks

Wolfsburg, Germany - At the upcoming International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Volkswagen will present the world premiere of the Eos coupe and cabriolet and the new R32, along with several other models that will all feature a new universal USB connection.

The computer-style connection, located in the centre armrest, will accept USB media sticks and play their audio files through the car's stereo. The system will recognize the memory once the CD drive is selected as the source. Larger USB players can also be connected with a cable.

Up to six music folders can be displayed as CDs on the radio or navigation system screen, along with any information stored, such as the number of the song. The stereo's scan, search and shuffle functions can be used on the memory stick's music files. Turning off the radio will stop the track, which will continue playing when it is turned back on. An iPod can also be played through the system, using a connection supplied by computer manufacturer Apple.
