Detroit, Michigan - The new 2007 Honda Fit, a subcompact hatchback set to go on sale in Canada at the beginning of April, made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Sunday. Already on sale in Asia and Europe, the Fit is designed to enter the North American market at Honda's entry level, below the Civic. The Fit will make its Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show on January 19.

"We will be bringing the five-door Honda Fit hatchback to Canada this Spring because of the popularity here of hatchbacks and the desire for excellent fuel efficiency," says Jim Miller, executive vice-president of Honda Canada Inc. "And we are confident that Canadians will embrace the Fit because of its overall value, full complement of standard safety features, unique convenience features and fun-to-drive performance."

The Fit features a 109-hp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission or available first-in-segment five-speed automatic transmission. In Canada, the Fit will be offered as the base DX, mid-range LX and top-line Sport, which features wheel-mounted paddle shifters (with the automatic transmission), underbody kit, rear roofline spoiler, fog lights, security system with keyless entry, cruise control, leather-wrapped wheel and 15-inch alloy wheels. The Fit Sport also offers a premium 160-watt CD/MP3/WMA stereo.

Honda will offer a full range of accessories, including sport muffler, 16-inch wheels, sport grille and coloured accent packages.

Pricing will be announced at a later date; a preview Web site has been set up at www.honda.ca/fit.
