Although it's appeared at other auto shows, the Chrysler Akino concept vehicle makes its Canadian debut at the Toronto event. It's named for its designer, Akino Tsuchiya, an interior and exterior designer based at the DaimlerChrysler Pacifica Advanced Design Center in Carlsbad, California and one of many women making their presence known in the automotive field.

The Japanese-born Tsuchiya incorporates an unmistakable Asian flair into the car's compact, "one-box" design, presenting a comfortable "living room on wheels" seating position, mood and sconce lighting, throw pillows, and natural and recyclable synthetic fabrics, including bamboo flooring. The Akino will remain a concept car, but expect to see design elements and more of its environmentally-friendly components showing up in future production vehicles.
