2008 Dodge Magnum
Facelift and interior upgrades highlight changes for '08 - SRT8 model gets new hood scoop
Changes to the 2008 Dodge Magnum SE, SXT, and R/T include revised headlamp design, a revised hood, lower and wider crosshair front grille, chrome trim added to the front fascia and grille, and redesigned lower air intakes. The Magnum R/T is also available with optional Xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. New exterior paint colours include Light Pebble Beige and Titanium.
Inside, there's a redesigned instrument panel with a more driver-oriented layout, soft-touch surfaces on the arm rests and centre console, a new cruise control stalk and optional LED lighting which illuminates the cup holders and door-map pockets. Brighter, chromed trim has been added to the cabin of SXT and R/T models.
The 2008 Dodge Magnum line-up also offers the latest entertainment and communication technology, such as UConnect Hands-free Communication System using Bluetooth technology with iPod interface for safer driving habits; factory installed SIRIUS Satellite Radio with streaming video option; full-map DVD-based Navigation System using Global Positioning System (GPS); and rear-seat DVD Video Entertainment System located in the centre console storage bin to provide easy access to rear-seat passengers.
Engine choices are the same for 2008: a 190-hp 2.7-litre V6, 250-hp 3.5-litre V6, and a 340-hp 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with four-speed and five-speed automatic transmissions, depending on the model.
The high-performance 2008 Magnum SRT8 model features a new functional hood scoop, redesigned hood, grille, headlights, front design, and interior features.
As before, its standard powerplant is a 6.1-litre Hemi V8 delivering 425-horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, contributing to a 0-60 mph time in the low five-second range. New for 2008, drivers can receive instant feedback on their performance numbers from a ReConfigurable Display (RCD) in the instrument cluster. The SRT8's five-speed automatic transmission has a specially calibrated, driver-selectable 'Auto Stick' that offers fully automatic or manual sequential shifting selection.
The SRT8's suspension includes SRT-tuned shocks, tailored spring rates and suspension bushings, and large-diameter anti-sway bars. For added stability and aerodynamics, the ride height of the Magnum SRT8 is one-half inch lower than the Dodge Magnum R/T, SXT and SE models, while its Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has been specially tuned. As well, the Magnum SRT8 features Brembo performance brake calipers, finished in red, providing an excellent 60-0 mph stopping distance of approximately 33.5 metres (110 feet).
On the inside, the 2008 Dodge Magnum STR8 adds new agate-colour accent stitching, carbon-fibre leather-trim door handles, and LED lighting in the cup holders and door-map pockets. It continues to feature power-adjustable, highly bolstered sport seats with performance suede inserts in the front, an improved grip-enhancing carbon-fibre leather-trim steering wheel, and a 300-km/h speedometer, tachometer and temperature gauge.
All Magnum models have rear-wheel drive, but Magnum SXT and R/T models are also available with all-wheel drive.
"The 2008 Dodge Magnum SRT8 is the ultimate package for drivers seeking complete, sports-car performance without compromising family-vehicle convenience and functionality," said Mike Accavitti, Director, Dodge Motorsports and SRT Marketing and Product Planning, Chrysler Group.
