Los Angeles, California - Lincoln has unveiled the all-new 2009 Lincoln MKS at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which will become the company's flagship full-size sedan. Lincoln says the new vehicle will fuel the company's growth by attracting new customers.
“Lincoln has re-established itself as a quality and design leader with award-winning products like the Lincoln MKZ, MKX and Navigator,” said Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company's President of the Americas. “With the Lincoln MKS, we are raising the bar even higher with unparalleled amenities and performance, and a price that should be irresistible to luxury customers.”
Pricing in the U.S. will begin at less than US$38,000, with Canadian pricing to be announced closer to the vehicle's launch. The company expects that up to 60 per cent of buyers will be new to Lincoln. The company says it is making an extra effort to reach out to African-American and Hispanic buyers through new marketing partnerships with Grammy Award-winning artists Common and Juanes.
The new MKS will be built in Chicago and arrive in showrooms next summer. Technologies and features on the new vehicle will include SYNC hands-free in-car communication system, voice-activated navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link, a next-generation keypad with LED backlit numbers, capless fuel-filler system, adaptive cruise control and Intelligent Access with push-button start, a first for Lincoln. The MKS is also available with all-wheel drive.
The MKS will use a new, Lincoln-exclusive 3.7-litre V6, derived from the 3.5-litre V6 in the Lincoln MKX, delivering 270 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Less than a year after launch, the MKS will be the first vehicle to offer Ford's new gasoline turbo direct injection engine technology, which the company says offers the power and torque of a V8 with the fuel efficiency of a V6.
